Alek arrives in Erinsborough with an announcement to make, which will rock Vanessa's world and leave her current partner Lucas Fitzgerald seething.

Speaking of the role, De Montemas commented: "It's taken a while but finally, I can say I've been on Neighbours, tick that box. I really liked the character because of his irreverent sense of humour which absolutely riles Lucas."

De Montemas has previously appeared as regular character Jason Kennedy in The Secret Life of Us. His other credits include roles in Underbelly, Cops LAC, Home and Away and Packed to the Rafters.

To play the role of Alek, De Montemas was asked to acquire a new accent, which proved a challenge.

He explained: "The director preferred he didn't have a thick eastern European accent as Alek was educated in England and lived in the States, so it's a hybrid of different cultures. If you can't work out what it is, I think I fulfilled the brief."

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 in the UK, and weekdays at 6.30pm on Eleven in Australia.
