After being attacked by a group of guys outside Charlie's, a battered and bruised Lucas tries to hide his injuries from Elle. However, when Elle discovers him nursing his wounds, Lucas lies and says he had an accident at work. Despite Elle's suggestions to sue, Lucas maintains that he's fine and doesn't want to take the matter further.
At the Erinsborough News, Paul discusses the recent sales figures with Elle before making the surprising announcement that he's stepping aside and putting her in charge of the newspaper. Despite Elle's initial protests, Paul is adamant that his daughter take the reins.
Later, Paul receives a document wallet from an anonymous man who simply states that Paul may be interested by what's inside. The document is an application for the surrogacy programme and, while the names are hidden, the document states that it will be a mother carrying the baby for her daughter. Paul is intrigued and presents the story to Elle. Despite Paul saying Elle should write it, she insists that he found the story so he has to write it.
Dan sets a task for the teens to create a commercial for an anti-smoking campaign using an oversized cigarette costume. While the teens struggle to come up with ideas, Sunny's suggestion is dismissed and Zeke is given the task of telling her. However, Sunny feels that it is a personal attack following her decision to break up with him.
Later, after finally agreeing upon an idea, the teens are unable to use the cigarette costume as it is being used by other groups in the class. However, when Zeke appears with the costume in tow, all appears to be back on track. Later, Dan confronts the class and demands to know who stole the cigarette costume from Kyle's group before their allotted time had finished. The class remains silent while a guilty Zeke wants to confess. Despite everyone else’s suggestions for Zeke to remain silent, he admits to his crime only for Sunny to suddenly admit she too stole the costume.
