5727: Tension builds between Steph and Lucas

Tension still lingers between Steph and Lucas following their moment when they nearly kissed, making it nearly impossible for them to work together. Steph confides in Libby that Lucas is pretending that nothing happened and Libby says that he may just be taking a while to process things. Later at Charlie's, Steph confronts Lucas and tells him she's been nothing but honest with him, but for him to pretend as if nothing happened is poor form and she thought he was better than that. Elle, having overheard a portion of the conversation, confronts Lucas but he manages to convince her he and Steph were talking about him leaving work early to have breakfast with Elle.

Steph tries to clear the air with Lucas and he tells her that they're mates and that's all. Angered that Lucas still won't admit to what is happening between them, Steph relays what he said to Libby and says that she just wants Lucas to admit to what's going on between them.

Later that night, Toadie has organised a poker game at number 30 and invites Lucas to join the fun. At home with Elle, Lucas manages to slip out and cleans up at the poker game. When Steph and Libby arrive, everyone heads into the kitchen for ice cream, leaving the pair alone to chat. Steph comments that if she didn't know any better, she'd think Lucas was developing a bit of a habit with his gambling, but Lucas dismisses it as nothing more than a bit of fun with mates. Steph remarks mates like them and Lucas sets her straight, telling Steph everything is in her head.

Returning home, Lucas hides his winnings from Elle before struggling with the temptation to go online to satisfy his gambling desires.

It's Bridget and Declan's first day back at school following the birth of baby India and Steve and the new parents go to painful lengths to ensure that their daughter's routine won't be disturbed while they're away. At school, while Bridget gives Kate a rundown on the teachers and which students to avoid, Declan is teased by Donna and Ringo for checking up on India. Later, while trying to regale the class with the details of giving birth, Bridget is embarrassed when Amanda comments that she is "leaking". A humiliated Bridget runs out of the classroom as Declan chases after her.

Later, Bridget is finding it increasingly difficult to concentrate on school as her thoughts turn to baby India. Declan wonders if they've made the right decision in going back to school so soon, but Bridget is adamant that she can be both a mother to baby India and also study.

Meanwhile, Libby and Dan put the past behind them and rehire Toadie as their lawyer in their bid to sue the hospital over the surrogacy case.
