Suffering a heart attack, and moments from death, Karl phones Susan – then Izzy – with final words of love. Karl dies – and is then revived – but experiences a startling near-death moment. Susan and Izzy rush to his side. Each of them is proprietal with Karl but Izzy pulls rank as his current de facto. Believing she’s the only one who got a call from Karl when he was dying, Izzy’s again secure in his love. In light of this she wants to put an end to hostilities with Susan. But Susan is left with the knowledge that Karl’s heart is truly with her – he phoned her first.

Following the news that Frank Romano is out on bail, Carmella and Connor escape to the country. Connor tries his best to relax Carmella but they’re both angry at having to live like fugitives. They wonder how long they’ll be forced to endure this but Carmella unexpectedly takes justice into her own hands. Taking a shotgun from the cottage where they’re staying she drives away in Connor’s car. Connor’s left dreading what will happen if Carmella finds Frank.

It’s Janelle’s birthday and Dylan desperately wants to impress his Mum. He’s broke but is prepared to sell his car to buy his Mum some quality jewellery, something she’s never had. He’s offered very little for his car and it seems Janelle’s gift won’t eventuate. Paul provides the solution, however, when he offers Dylan some paid work: Dylan must “persuade??? some squatters to leave one of Paul’s properties. Stingray’s worried about the legality of all this and he’s scared for his brother’s safety. Dylan completes the task and buys Janelle an expensive gold ring, but she assumes the present came from Stingray. This is the final straw for Dylan and, distraught, he demands to know why his Mum doesn’t love him. Janelle’s forced to admit that every time she sees Dylan she sees her mongrel of a husband.
