Meanwhile, frightened of telling Rhys the real reason she can't go to Japan, Vanessa claims that she has a phobia of flying. Determined to help her overcome the fear, Rhys manages to talk her into trying hypnosis. Convinced it won't work, Vanessa agrees - only to reveal that she isn't scared of flying at all: she just doesn't want to leave Lucas.
With her lie revealed, Vanessa explains that she doesn't want to stop Lucas from sharing the baby's progress, and also explains her deeper concern about how complicated her relationship with Rhys is. Rhys vows that he's committed to Vanessa, despite any complications. Reassured, Vanessa seeks Lucas's blessing and tells an overjoyed Rhys that she's coming to Japan.
Elsewhere, Lucas finally confesses to Sonya that he's in love with the mother of his child. Sonya urges him to reveal his true feelings to Vanessa, but before he can, he's reminded of her blossoming love for Rhys. Heartbroken, he gives his blessing for her to travel to Japan but privately clings to his last hope - that if he can find a home for them, Vanessa might change her mind.
