The 19-year-old, who plays Ruby Buckton in the series, went on a double date with Johnston, 28, and some friends.
"Tim saw Rebecca last week; they went on a double date with some friends," a source told TV Week.
Breeds and Johnston were introduced by mutual friend and fellow Australian Idol contestant Hayley Warner.
"Hayley knows Rebecca and she was the one who played Cupid," the source said.
Meanwhile, the insider added that Johnston may land himself a role on the Australian soap through his friendship with Breeds, saying: "He's a good actor and has a fit body, so it'd be good to see him on the show getting his gear off."
