Emily Symons has returned to the Australian soap that she left more than a decade ago.

The actress said that she was delighted to reprise the role of Marilyn Chambers on Five's Home And Away after a 12 year break. Symons, 40, left Emmerdale to return to Australia when her mother became unwell.

On her time in the UK, Symons told The Sun: "It was an amazing experience in the UK - but my mother became sick with cancer. Mothers and daughters have a very special bond.

"I would never have forgiven myself if I wasn't there when she needed me."

Symons added that her Summer Bay character remains the "bubbly, positive, energetic and slightly bonkers 80s chick" that she always was. However, she said that Marilyn's time in the UK had added 'spirituality' into the mix.
