The 19-year-old, who plays Nicole Franklin in Home and Away, became engaged to rugby player boyfriend Nate Myles last month.
Explaining her decision to accept the proposal, James told the Herald Sun: "I think that you just know. I trust my instincts. It felt right and I'm the happiest I've been.
"Nate is supportive and that is a huge thing for me. I'm really excited for the future."
Myles reportedly gave James a two-carat yellow diamond ring to mark the engagement.
