Tessa James has promised that fans can expect a realistic portrayal of teen pregnancy in her new Home and Away storyline.

The actress's character Nicole Franklin is currently expecting a baby following her short-lived relationship with twisted Penn Graham (Christian Clark), who has since been murdered in a surprise plot twist.

Later this week, viewers in the UK will see Nicole share her unexpected news with Marilyn Chambers (Emily Symons). Fans in Australia have already seen the pair discuss the matter.

In an interview with Sunrise, James was asked whether it was important to "respect" the issue of teen pregnancy when filming the storyline.

The 19-year-old replied: "Oh, definitely. I think with anything that we do, we try to do it [with] the utmost reality of the situation.

"We took it very seriously with the writers, and you do a lot of research and things like that. You can only do your best, I guess!"

Meanwhile, asked whether Nicole was Penn's killer, James commented: "I don't know - maybe! I'm sure [she's] capable!"

James recently became engaged to rugby league player Nate Myles.
