The actress has already filmed her final scenes for the Summer Bay drama and now plans to pursue other career opportunities by auditioning for parts in Los Angeles.
Speaking of her departure, James told New Idea: "I was at Home and Away for three-and-a-half-years, so it's good to be finished and get to be who I am, and do what I've wanted to do for so long."
James recently announced that she has become engaged to rugby league player Nate Myles following a 10-month romance.
Discussing her future, she added: "It's an exciting new chapter but, ultimately, it's nice to have that person to support you. I know Nate will always be here for me."
News of James's departure comes following the recent revelation that Luke Jacobz (Angelo Rosetta) has also left Home and Away.
