Emily Symons: 'Marilyn shouldn't change'

Emily Symons has said that she hopes her Home and Away character Marilyn Chambers never changes.

The actress, who has played ditzy Marilyn on and off since 1989, told Holy Soap that she thinks fans of the show are fond of her personality quirks and outrageous wardrobe, and would not want to see her altered.

Symons explained: "I don't think Marilyn will ever change her personality, and I don't think the fans would want her to either.

"Marilyn is who she is and doesn't care what anybody thinks. In her mind [she dresses] how a lady of her age would dress - she thinks it's absolutely normal and is proud of her style, although Colleen [Smart] definitely disapproves!

"If she [changed], she wouldn't be Marilyn. To make her look 'normal', it wouldn't be true to the character, so I don't think she should change."
