Home and Away legend Ray Meagher has expressed delight over the news that he is to be immortalised in wax at Madame Tussauds.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the actor will be the first celebrity to be featured at a new Sydney branch of the museum when it opens in May 2012.

Meagher admitted that he thought a mistake had been made when he initially discovered what was in store.

He told The Daily Telegraph: "I thought they sent the invite to the wrong address! When I realised they hadn't, it was quite an honour."

Meagher, who plays Summer Bay stalwart Alf Stewart, was previously recognised for his acting career when he won the prestigious Gold Logie prize last year.

He added: "A Gold Logie and Madame Tussauds in two years is a bit over the top!"

Home and Away has featured the character of Alf since its launch episode in 1988.
