Withington joked: "I want to be here until it's Nursing Home and Away. I adore making television.

"I've had a chance to move into other areas and I've tried them all, but it's television I keep coming back to. I love it because you work every day - every single day you're out there trying new stuff out."

Praising the work of Home and Away's former producer, he commented: "Cameron Welsh made some terrific changes to this show which took it from being a run-of-the-mill successful Australian soap opera to up another level."

John Palmer's next big storyline will see his marriage to Gina Austin hit the rocks, as their lives continue to be impacted by foster child Jett. Whether they can make it through the crisis remains to be seen.

Withington said: "He has got a lot of love in his heart for Jett, he genuinely does love him but there's friction there all the way. It's very tough on us and there's some hard drama."

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 in the UK, and weekdays at 7pm on Network Seven in Australia.
