4863: Irene goes off the rails

In hot pursuit of the shark, Alf and Hugo are suddenly struck by a sickening feeling when they realise that Miles has been knocked overboard. Searching the surrounding waters in the dark, Alf and Hugo hold out little hope of finding Miles until the morning. As they continue to search the darkened waters, the pair spot a torch light and follow it to Miles's rescue.

After spending a second unsuccessful day at sea in search of the shark, Alf, Miles and Hugo agree to abandon their attempts to track it down and return to shore. As they prepare to return home, Miles suddenly hooks something big on his fishing line. Pulling up the heavy object, the three men look on in horror as they make the grizzly discovery of Lou's decomposing body.

Concerned for Irene's welfare, Belle confides in Rachel that she thinks Irene is drinking again while in prison. Alarmed by Belle's fears, Rachel agrees to go with her to visit Irene and question her about her problems. When asked by Belle and Rachel if she's drinking, Irene becomes defensive. Both Rachel and Belle offer Irene their support and urge her not to give up, but their kind words fall on deaf ears. Later that night, another bottle of gin is secretly left in Irene's prison cell and this time she wastes no time in giving in to temptation and taking a drink.

After a long and turbulent couple of weeks, an excited Liam announces to Belle that he's managed to book some studio time. Belle is pleased that Liam is getting his life and career back on track. Later, Aden confronts Belle and drops a bombshell – he saw Liam buying drugs from a dealer. Refusing to believe Aden, Belle joins Liam for dinner but when he completely ignores her and insists on them leaving Summer Bay together, Belle storms out, furious with her boyfriend. Alone, Liam reaches a new low and pops a pill.
