4893: Jai and Xavier try to cover the shooting

Jai has a lucky escape when the bullet from Xavier's rifle only grazes his arm. However, it leaves a nasty gash. The boys go to the hospital where Xavier tries to downplay Jai's injury by saying that he caught his arm on a barbwire fence but the nurse isn't so sure and speaks to Rachel. When Rachel goes to check on Jai she finds that the boys have fled. Xavier bandages Jai's wound and the boys agree to keep the accident a secret.

The next day, Martha takes the rifles around to Geoff and Annie to see if they know anything about them. Geoff admits that they belonged to Bruce and he must have hidden them after the gun amnesty ran out. Later, Geoff realises that one of the guns is missing.

Annie visits Jai and comments that he doesn't look like himself. Playfully hitting Jai with a book, Annie is concerned when Jai groans in agony, but he passes it off as him just playing around with her. Later, Annie speaks to Ruby and says that she thinks Jai is hurting more than he cares to admit over their break-up. With Xavier's weird behaviour and Geoff's news that one of Bruce's guns is missing, Ruby and Annie immediately put two and two together and confront Xavier. Xavier crumbles and admits that Jai was accidentally shot. Ruby and Annie are left shocked, but Xavier and Jai manage to convince the girls to keep quiet. However, Annie puts an end to any possible reconciliation with Jai by telling him that she wants nothing more to do with him.

Following their kiss, Martha and Hugo talk and Martha admits that while she has feelings for Hugo, she's not ready to start a relationship with him. Later, Martha admits to Rachel that while she likes Hugo, she doesn't want to betray Jack's memory. Rachel wonders whether Martha is really ready to let go of Jack. Later, Martha says a final, private goodbye to Jack at the beach before going in search of Hugo and telling him that she's ready to be with him, but they'll have to take things slow.

The tension between Geoff and Claudia is palpable and Geoff's guilt over what happened to Lachie is beginning to consume him. Picking up on the tension between the ex's, Irene tells Geoff that although she knows it's hard, she can't throw Claudia out. Later, following Irene's advice, Geoff visits Lachie in the hospital to attempt to talk things through again. Geoff admits to Lachie that he is the father of Claudia's baby, but Lachie doesn't want to hear it. He's still incredibly angry and upset over the prospect of never walking again. Geoff is worried about Claudia having to look after Lachie in such an aggressive mood, but Claudia admits that it is fine.

Later, Rachel is forced to intervene when Lachie once again lashes out at Claudia. Bumping into Geoff in the Diner, Rachel tells him that things between Lachie and Claudia aren't good. Geoff rushes to the hospital to be by Claudia's side, but when he arrives he finds Lachie once again lashing out at her.
