4953: Ruby hatches a plan to help Charlie

Gina is worried about accepting the position as acting principal at the high school, but Martha tries to encourage her that it's a good opportunity. Later, Xavier is none too pleased to learn of his mother's new job and tells Ruby that he won't be able to cope with his mother being the disciplinarian at both home and school. Gina talks to Martin about why he offered her the position even though she seemed so negative about things and he tells her it was because he liked her honesty.

Meanwhile, Ruby feels that it is unfair Charlie has been suspended from work while Robert conducts his investigation into Grant's murder and suggests they find a way to help. They hatch a plan to help clear Charlie's name, even though it is a complete fabrication. Later, after Ruby is informally interviewed by Robert at the fish market, Ruby and Xavier head to the police station and tell their side of the story. Robert is satisfied with the alibi they provide for Charlie and reinstates her to normal duties, but are his motives honourable?

Elsewhere, Leah is excited about her date with Robert and he suggests taking her to an Italian restaurant in town. Irene is pleased to see Leah so happy, but when Ruby and Xavier try to clear Charlie's name, he is forced to cancel the day, leaving Leah disappointed.

Meanwhile, Colleen suggests to Martha that she and John should have a debate as the council elections heat up.
