Adam Thomas - brother of Corrie star Ryan, who plays Jason Grimshaw in the ITV soap - begins a two-day filming stint in Birmingham tomorrow, just days after the announcement that Katherine Kelly's sister Grace is to make a guest appearance as an anorexic student.
The 21-year-old, who plays Donte Charles in Waterloo Road, is to take on the role of detached outsider Ben Hamilton, who has spent the majority of his life living in institutions after murdering his fellow classmate when he was younger.
Having served his time, Ben is released from the institute, resolving to get his life back on track and re-connect with his estranged mother Sally. However, his efforts prove fruitless when she wants nothing more to do with him. It is left to The Mill receptionist Karen (Jan Pearson) to support him in his plight.
Series producer Mike Hobson said: "I'm delighted that we had the opportunity to cast Adam in the role of Ben; he's a wonderful young actor and he undoubtedly has a great future ahead of him.
"Ben is a rather complicated, intense character and I'm certain Adam will more than rise to the challenge of portraying him. It's an episode not to be missed."
Thomas's episode, entitled 'Hamilton Is Out', is scheduled to be broadcast on Monday, May 26 on BBC One.
He has previous appeared in two episodes of Doctors, 'Losing Control' and 'Growing Pains'.
