Former Coronation Street actor Ian Reddington is to make a guest appearance in BBC daytime medical drama Doctors.

The 50-year-old, who played Liz McDonald's (Bev Callard) down-and-out partner Vernon Tomlin for three years, will play sleazy entrepreneur Tim Clayden for one episode.

Tim and The Mill's Dr Jimmi Clay (Adrian Lewis Morgan) meet at the funeral of an old business acquaintance of theirs. When Tim becomes embroiled in a fight with a homeless man at the wake, Jimmi's forced to tend to his injuries after he falls and bangs his head.

In an ironic turn of events, Jimmi learns that the vagrant ended up on the streets because of Tim.

Reddington's episode, titled 'Nobody', is due to air on Friday, October 2 at 1.45pm on BBC One.

His Corrie character was axed at the end of last year in a mass cast clear out. He made his last appearance on the cobbles on Friday, September 22.

More recently, Reddington filmed a guest appearance for BBC One drama Robin Hood.
