Regular character Elaine Cassidy (Janet Dibley) is in for a shock in the coming weeks when Harrison changes his plea for Lauren Porter's murder to not guilty.

The chain of events that follows sees Alex Redmond (Stuart Laing) asking for help from a distressed Elaine, which puts her in a difficult position.

A Doctors statement teased: "Discovering that Alex's wife went missing after an affair with Harrison, Elaine is forced to consider that he may have killed other women too.

"Plagued by phone calls from Harrison in prison, will Elaine be able to confront her former lover and resist his charms?"

Doctors' series producer Mike Hobson added: "Lauren's murder was one of Doctors' most popular storylines, and this Red Button event picks up on one of the show's most chilling villains, building across the week to a dramatic conclusion."

The storyline will play out in the regular daytime episodes of Doctors, with Elaine's journey continuing throughout the Red Button specials.

The bonus episodes will be available to watch straight after Doctors each day, and will also be uploaded on the official Doctors website. Get the Inside Soap magazine on your iPhone or iPad
