Venn has landed the role of Gareth Bailey, who will appear in a storyline with established regular Emma Reid (Dido Miles).

Doctors producer Peter Bullock told Digital Spy: "We're delighted to have the popular and hugely talented Chucky Venn join the cast. Chucky plays a potential suitor, Gareth Bailey, for regular character Emma Reid.

"On a night out to blow the cobwebs away, Emma encounters Gareth at a club. As the drinks flow, Emma's head is turned by easy-talking Gareth - but is he all he is cracked up to be?"

Doctors will air the storyline on Tuesday, May 13 and Wednesday, May 14 at 1.45pm on BBC One.

Venn joined EastEnders as Ray in late 2011 and left the show last year.
