'Doctors' gains new GP and practice nurse
Two new faces are set to get pulses racing in Doctors, Digital Spy can reveal.

Matt Kennard – who has previously been seen in Coronation Street, The Bill and Heartbeat – will play the role of practice nurse Archie Hallam.

Archie, who first appears on Tuesday, August 21 in an episode called 'A Passing Phase', is a loveable character and a hit with the staff and patients alike. He's a real cheeky chappy, fun to be with, a great listener and an excellent nurse.

But not living up to his parents' expectations of him becoming a doctor is always an underlying issue, not that it's obvious however with his confident and positive demeanour.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Bower joins the regular cast as GP registrar in training, Doctor Melody Bell.

Melody arrives slightly earlier than Archie, her first episode being 'There Was an Old Lady' which transmits on Monday, July 30. When she arrives at The Mill, she's told by savage receptionist Vivien (Anita Carey) to come back when she has an appointment!

Scatty, very vocal and highly strung, Melody still has a great deal of maturing to do. She's always on the go, full of energy and never stops talking, which serves to hide her lack of confidence in her abilities.

However, Melody is funny, sweet and she has real potential to be a brilliant doctor. So it's up to her mentor, Doctor Joe Fenton (Stephen Boxer), to guide her - when she’s not driving him to distraction, that is.

Speaking of the two new signings, Executive Producer Will Trotter said: "Doctors prides itself on the quality of the on screen talent - its no good having a great story and a stylish production without fab acting."

He added: "We are really exited about bringing Liz and Matt on board - they are both fun and sexy future screen stars." Get the Inside Soap magazine on your iPhone or iPad
