Corrie love rat for 'Doctors' cameo

ITV / Coronation Street

Former Coronation Street actor Graeme Hawley is to make a guest appearance in BBC One's Doctors.

The 34-year-old, who played love rat teacher John Stape in Coronation Street until the end of last year, will appear in the daytime medical drama as Barry Partridge, a gentle accountant who, in his own opinion, is rather boring and uninteresting.

But everything changes when he meets the vivacious Marilyn and becomes amazed at the passion and excitement he feels. His stumbling block, however, is Marilyn's literal witch of a daughter, Penny, who can't stand her mum's new boyfriend.

In a bid to eradicate Barry from her life, she takes matters into her own hands by placing an evil spell on him. Penny's left stunned, though, when Barry starts having trouble breathing.

Doctors producer Ella Kelly said: "Graeme certainly brought a bit of a twinkle to Doctors; he was very relaxed and completely at home with us. It was a fun part in a quirky story of witchcraft and Graeme was exactly the downtrodden toyboy we needed!"

Hawley filmed his episode entitled 'The Hex' earlier this week. It is due to be broadcast on Thursday, April 24.
