'From The Ashes'
Vivien receives news about the boy’s sentences. She visits Mary to deliver the news but is left feeling empty despite the good result.

Meanwhile, Vivien has taken the day off today, awaiting news from Ronnie about of the sentencing of the two boys that raped her. She explains to Ronnie (who is dealing with another case) that she is out most of the day, but he can contact her on her mobile when he gets the result. Vivien visits a friend (IVY WYLANDS, 50) who’s recently been widowed. It’s also a good opportunity for Vivien to take her mind off the hearing. Ivy’s coping well since the death of her husband (Stanley) until she meets Heidi Arnesson (30).

Heidi explains to Ivy that she is a tutor from Oslo University who was working on a project with Stanley. She was shocked to hear about his death, even more shocked to hear that he was MARRIED! She exposes to Ivy that Stanley was her boyfriend and Ivy’s left distraught with the idea that Stanley was living a double life. Stanley worked away a lot of the time but Ivy was never suspicious. It appears that it’s not going to be the quiet, relaxing day that Vivien much needed!

Vivien tries to comfort Ivy, enraged by this unearthing news; Heidi appears also just as distraught. Undeterred, Heidi bolts from the house and jumps in a taxi. It isn’t long before Ivy discovers that she’s taken Stanley’s ashes, as well as an ornamental Viking boat he owned. The ever efficient Vivien tracks down the taxi firm and manages to trace Heidi’s whereabouts.

Kneeling down in a park by the side of a boating lake, Heidi attempts to pour Stanley’s ashes into the boat floating in front of her, giving him what she reveals was Stanley’s last wishes, a true Viking funeral. Ivy halts her and a bitter feud erupts. Ivy remains uncertain as to whether Heidi is at all telling the truth and asks Vivien to call the police.

At that very moment, Vivien receives a call on her mobile, it’s Ronnie. He delivers information that the boys were given a fair hearing and that they will both be going to prison for a long time. Vivien doesn’t know how to respond and Ronnie doesn’t understand her lack of reaction. She quickly ends the call when Ivy asks again if she can call the police!

Heidi watches as Vivien is lost, distracted, taking in the surroundings of the park. She suggests a compromise to the quandary between Ivy and Heidi. Maybe it isn’t a bad place to lay Stanley’s ashes after all. It would certainly be a nice place for Ivy to visit Stanley, and Heidi will fulfil his wishes of a Viking funeral. Ivy finally softens much to the relief of Heidi and they both respectively dispose of his remains.

Vivien has one last thing to do at the end of the day, visit Mary who was also raped by the same boys and tell her about the sentences. Mary’s now conscious; she’s heavily sedated and unable to talk. Vivien comforts her as best as she can sitting at her bedside and delivers the news. Mary’s eye’s slowly close leaving a reassuring smile in Vivien’s faces. As Vivien leaves the hospital her smile begins to fade, being replaced by emptiness. Hook.

Ruth is on holiday with Michelle and a temp Sasha Ecclestone (20) has been called in to help at the campus surgery. She’s incredibly ditzy, as Archie discovers from the off. Not only has she got a terrible telephone manner, but she’s mixing patient’s records up, leaving Archie looking completely un-professional. She explains to Archie that the real reason behind her mistakes is that the love of her life is getting married today.

Informing Archie that she knows that he is doing it for the wrong reasons and expects him to walk into the surgery at any moment, Archie tries to let her down lightly that it’s never going to happen. He surprisingly discovers that Sasha is coping with the workload well despite the earlier mishaps, only after she reveals that the love of her life is soon forgotten about, since she was called by a bloke from her last temporary assignment.
