Kirsten can see that she’s hurt Archie and she later apologises and welcomes him in. She’s been making handmade Christmas decorations and didn’t want Archie to know what a ‘saddo’ she is so early in their relationship. Archie thinks this is hysterical and teases her! She challenges him to make some and they have a great time together. Things soon turn amorous.
Kirsten romantically informs Archie that he almost seems too good to be true. Kirsten wants him to reassure her that he really is a person with a conscience. Archie assures her that he is. For Archie this is just silly pillow talk but unnoticed by Archie, for Kirsten it seems a lot more serious.
Vivien eagerly awaits her driving instructor, Madge. She’s an efficient woman and Vivien thinks she’s wonderful. The first driving lesson is a roaring success and Vivien feels super-confident even though her test is so close. She brags to Jimmi and Julia that it makes a difference having an expert tutor. He explains to Julia that he’s glad for her, even if he wasted 25 hours of his life terrorised by teaching her initially!
Lily torments Heston about him falling asleep at the lecture last night. She’s incensed with him and doesn’t understand why he came if he was going to find it boring. The truth is he’d go anywhere with her. Heston asks her out for a drink, a chance to make it up to her but she remains cross. She’s rather enjoying this encounter which is witnessed by a few of their work colleagues who find the two of them completely baffling.
Enraged by not winning her over, Heston accuses her of having no sense of humour; Lily clarifies that it might be better if he tried harder to amuse her which leaves him speechless. Does this provide Heston with a new challenge?
Meanwhile, Vanessa Stimpson (31) is home alone and worried for her baby Lucas who has a temperature. Her husband Micah Stimpson (37) is returning from Africa today but she can’t wait for him and decides to take Lucas to the doctors. Lily confirms that he has a temperature and details no major worries, but when Vanessa enlightens Lily that she and Micah worked in Sudan for a number of years and Lucas was born there, alarm bells start ringing. Lily suggests a blood test to rule out any tropical infection which makes Vanessa hesitant to proceed – Lily smells a rat.
Vanessa leaves the surgery stating that she will take Lucas to the hospital for the blood test but Lily is left unsure. Back at home, Micah has returned and he’s overjoyed to see his family, but Vanessa is panicking that she may have let the cat out of the bag. She informs Micah about the blood test and her chat with Lily, and he agrees that it would be best to get him checked out. Lily’s suspicions grow and she tracks down Vanessa’s address.
Lily turns up at their house and expresses that she is worried for Lucas’s welfare since Vanessa appeared panicked about taking Lucas for tests. She’s shocked that two devoted parents are reluctant to act for the wellbeing of their child. Vanessa finally reveals their predicament. They adopted Lucas from a family in Sudan as Lucas’s mother had died during childbirth and the village agreed that Micah and Vanessa could adopt him. Lily expresses her fears that Lucas might be HIV positive which prompts the family to do what is best for Lucas.
They feared losing Lucas altogether because the blood test would have proved him to be of a different blood group and that he would be taken away from them. When Lily justifies that she’ll have to notify the appropriate authorities, Micah takes hold of the situation and promises to do things by the book.
Lily leaves unsure of what actions they will take. Later that day, Lily finishes off her work. She’s had a returned call from social services but still hasn’t notified them in full detail. Micah and Vanessa return to the surgery to inform Lily that they have taken Lucas for his test and notified the adoption services before her. Their intentions were to always tell the truth and care for this adorable baby – they will do anything to keep him.
