Archie repels her cynicism and they embark on their first row where Kirsten walks out telling him to both deal with it their separate ways. Archie tries to contact ‘Tralawney Wells’ highlighting his concerns and later details it in an email.
Later, Kirsten returns to apologise to Archie admitting that she’s become obsessed and doesn’t want all this to get out of hand but we are left with a sense that she might be withholding something from Archie.
Daniel arrives to work with a hangover. Over a strong coffee, Daniel explains to George about a girl (Charmaine) he met last night, and that Ruth’s not pregnant. She’s surprised to hear about his amorous evening, but it was the greatest medicine Daniel could receive. Charmaine phones him during the day, she’d like a repeat of last night’s passion but they can’t go back to her place so he suggests his would be available.
When Daniel sees Lily in the staff room, he tries to spin a story about his female cousin coming over but Lily sees through this immediately when he suggests that she can stay in his room. Lily tells him he’s every right to have a female guest, but reminds him that she is a light sleeper. Heston is also present and tries to persuade Lily to let a young man have his fun, and that she’s more that welcome to stay over in his spare room.
There is a flicker of temptation in Lily’s eyes but then she remembers that she has a paper to finish so she declines. Daniel can see no option but to book a hotel room for another night of passion.
Every hotel is full and he’s left wracking his brains for a venue. George enters and is unsympathetic but amused that he feels like a teenager again. She teases Daniel about his age, telling him that he’s nearly forty and he’s showing classic signs of his fearing what’s about to come. He receives a text from Charmaine – she’s had a better offer and he’s been dumped. He can’t believe it. He exclaims to George that surely there’s more to life that this - George watches him concerned as he appears to have taken all her words to heart.
Meanwhile, William Ribble (44) is a compassionate and caring wealthy man, living under the shadow of his wife, Helena Ribble (35). William’s impotence and his wife’s high sex drive has been slowly pulling them apart. He adores Helena, but he has reluctantly agreed for her to have sex with other men. William has aimlessly tried everything in the book to try and get his problem fixed, and visits George as a last ditch attempt!
George watches on as William explains the misery his lenience has created. Sensing that he isn’t getting anywhere William leaves the surgery, stamping on his mediation as George watches sorrowfully. She picks up his bottle and studies it in more detail. She tries to call William but there’s no answer. William returns home and is greeted by his doting neighbour, Dara Redfern (44). She knows that William is being taken for a ride, but despite her injustices in speaking her mind, William continues his miserable life.
His frustrations plunge deeper when Helena reveals that she has been on a shopping spree. She hastily covers her frivolous disbursements by producing a bracelet that expresses her true love for him and William appears blinkered. It isn’t long before the blinkers are off, when he discovers that she has brought a lover home!
Helena vehemently takes control of the situation, leaving William deflated and having to preoccupy himself. When George arrives she finds him in a daze, washing the car and trying to drown out the sound of his wife’s lovemaking. She explains to William that he was incorrectly prescribed, and that he has been taking painkillers.
He stands tormented, trying to surmise what went wrong but it isn’t long before he interjects George when he realises that his inability to pick up his own mediation gave Helena the chance to lay her seeds. She had deceived him with fake medication so she can continue to live the lavish life she has become to enjoy, leaving William a dejected and lifeless soul. George watches as William boldly confronts Helena, packs her bags, and finally creates a new life for himself, much to the delight of Dara!
