'Minuit'

Melody tells Daniel about her skiing trip plans for Christmas, only to be irked to hear what he’s up to over the break. He’s planned to spend Christmas in Greece with the lovely ‘Xanthe’ who has him on a promise. Melody rolls her eyes. Meanwhile, Julia is covering reception as a temp has let her down and it’s busy! She leaves for a brief moment, only to return and see a baby seat parked on the reception desk, with baby!

Julia confidently expects to get to the bottom of who’s the baby is but to make matters worse, the baby begins to cry. While Julia runs around trying to find the mother, Heston seizes the opportunity for a cuddle. He charms the little girl with tickles as Lily walks into reception. She nearly stumbles into Heston and the baby, but when she sees it she recoils away. George makes a medical assessment of the baby while Heston continues to hold her.

The baby is healthy looking, clearly loved and well looked after but Julia remembers how tough it is to be a single mum and they hold off calling social services for now to give the Mum a chance to come to her senses. Daniel seems to bump into the baby at every turn but he’s wants nothing to do with it; it’s too reminiscent of his nightmarish close shave with Ruth.

Archie and Kirsten have lunch together. It would appear that their row yesterday has brought them even closer together and they are full of Christmas glee. Archie wants to ask Kirsten if she would consider spending Christmas with his family, but he’s worried that he might be moving too quickly, but Kirsten wanted to surprise him by asking him to spend Christmas with her family in.

They compete about whose Mum has the best Christmas pudding, whose Dad tells the worst jokes etc. In the end they make a game of it and toss a coin.

Later that day Julia concedes to call social services, that is until she comes across a note in Daniels office. She was returning his leave form when she discovered it. The note states that the baby is called Isobel, that she’s seven months old, her mother loves her but can’t cope, so she’s let her with the father!

Word gets around quick and Daniel is left gobsmacked that his private life is being shared around the department. He states that there’s no possibility that it’s his and maintains that the baby will have to go to social services. Archie cheerfully mentions to Heston, Julia and Melody that the baby has quite definitely got his nose.

Heston and Julia are shocked that even Daniel would turn away his own child, at Christmas. That is until George pulls him aside, telling him that his soul is in the dock. Daniel can see he’s got no option and reluctantly agrees to take the baby home for one night!

Meanwhile, It’s the Start of the Christmas break and student (Simon Finch -22) is preparing to return home for the festive season. As he reverses his car, he unfortunately runs over a kitten (Minuit), but instead of driving away, he considerably tries to find the owner. The cat’s collar bears the name of the owner, Simone Palu (25), and Simon goes to the campus surgery to ask Ruth if she knows the owner. She manages to track down her details gives it to Simon.

Simone is French, gorgeous and Simon can’t bring it to himself to tell her about the cat, instead, he tells her that he’ll do everything he can to find it. She foolishly tags her along in a wild search for ‘Minuit’, unaware of Simon’s aroused affection.

The truth is that he has put her cat in his freezer, Ruth discovers his charade and prompts him to tell the truth, but he just can’t bring himself to do it. Simone thinks that Simon is her knight in shinning armour and he is only too best pleased to hear this first hand. He’s besotted with her and is even more excited to find that she doesn’t have a boyfriend.

The plot thickens when Simon promises to start a poster campaign to search for the cat and Ruth witnesses this when she makes a last attempt to try and get him to tell the truth to Simone. His charade is soon rumbled when Simone turns up at the house when Ruth is also present.

Simon suffers a pathetic injury and as Ruth tends to him, Simone reaches for the freezer to get some ice. Livid as to why her cat has ended up in his freezer, Ruth takes the blame telling Simone that she found the cat and couldn’t bring herself to telling her earlier. Simon cheekily goes along with Ruth’s cover, his bravado oozing but it disappears when Simone receives a call. She makes no hesitation in showing her affection to the other caller and Simon is left bemused. He was under the impression that she didn’t have a boyfriend but much to his surprise Simone informs him that she has a girlfriend.

Simon’s left crushed and Ruth tries to comfort him explaining her interpretation of relationships and today’s events, but Simon misreads her and leans in for a Kiss. Ruth pushes him away unclear about what his intensions were, and they both go about their business, Simon embarrassed, and Ruth feeling sympathetic for him. Finally, he’s left with the job of laying the cat to rest but it isn’t long before he is distracted by another female student, to which he enjoys giving chase, AGAIN!
