'Amends'

Bill Hesson (63) exits the train station and arrives in Letherbridge. He gets a call from someone called Monty who he assures that everything is under control and that he will be back in Spain in a few days.

Meanwhile Daniel is in the staff room with Jimmi and Michelle when Vivien calls out he has a home visit.

Bill comes out of a shop when he spots David Keston (8) looking in the window of a dress shop. Andy Keston (30s) is frantically looking around for something and Bill asks him if it’s David he’s looking for - it is.

Daniel has been called to a hotel to see Becky Hesson (26) who is having an asthma attack. It’s her wedding day and she is there with her mother Angela James (50s) getting ready. Daniel puts her on a nebuliser and her breathing stabilises. He gives her a prescription for some steroids and warns her to keep her inhaler with her during the day.

Bill arrives at the hotel and is pleased with what he sees.

Daniel gathers his things to leave when Angela invites him to the wedding - he politely declines. Angela presents Becky with an emerald pendant which is a family heirloom. As Daniel is leaving the door knocks and he answers it to reveal Bill. Angela is horrified, Becky is stunned. Angela wants to swing for him being there but he says he was invited - Daniel has to keep them apart.

Andy is waiting with David in the Mill reception. Andy is furious when David starts playing with a doll. David sits with his head bowed. Andy surprises Jimmi when he tells him in consultation that he needs to fix David. He’s worried because he has started playing with dolls and having tea parties. Jimmi is concerned about David being present for this conversation but Andy insists. Andy storms out after Jimmi suggests Andy is taking his anger out on David.

Becky tries to reason with Angela about letting Bill stay. Angela warns her he can’t be trusted as he’s been gone for 10-years and she’s suspicious as to why he has come back. However Angela eventually agrees to let Bill stay if he behaves himse lf.

Jimmi gets a cancellation and decides to call on David and Andy. Jimmi apologises for their rocky start and says he only wants to help.

Bill makes himself at home much to Angela’s annoyance. He manages to swerve Becky’s questions about why he never got in contact. Angela and Becky leave to go to the hairdressers. Unseen by them, Bill puts a rolled up piece of paper in the door lock as they leave.

When Andy tells Jimmi his wife died just over a year ago Jimmi explains that David is probably still grieving for his mum. Jimmi can’t get over the fact that this never occurred to Andy. Jimmi asks if Andy thinks David is gay. Andy had wondered because of the dolls and looking at dresses. Jimmi thinks that because David wasn’t allowed to go to the funeral, he has unresolved grief and he suggests bereavement counselling.

Bill lets himself into the hotel room and sees the emerald pendant hanging out of the jewellery box – he looks at it for a minute and then pockets it.

Andy has to go and finish a job for an important client so he takes David with him and locks him in the car whilst he gets on with his work.

Becky catches Bill as he is leaving the hotel. She realises he is leaving for good.

Jimmi comes back to the Mill and tells Vivien he feels he has made some progress with Andy and David’s case.

Daniel is having a drink in the Icon Bar when Bill arrives. Daniel is worried that all this stress will bring on another asthma attack for Becky. Daniel can’t believe that Bill is throwing away a chance to be in his daughter’s life. Daniel is shocked when Bill shows him the stolen pendant.

Bill goes back to the hotel and tries to apologise to Becky for leaving but she doesn’t want to know. He shocks them further by returning the pendant.

Jimmi is on his way back to work when he sees David crying in the car. He takes him back to the Mill. Jimmi calls social services as David refuses to speak. Jimmi has left a note on the windscreen so when Andy returns he sees it and rushes to the Mill.

Bill tries to convince Angela that he wants to change. Angela is doubtful but Bill wants her to help him convince Becky. Angela won’t and walks away from him.

When Andy turns up at the Mill Jimmi vents his anger at him for leaving David in the car. Jimmi lets his past with his own father influence the way he is dealing with this situation. David runs in and is delighted to see his father. Jimmi agrees with Vivien - he has let his own experience cloud his judgement. He apologises to Andy and promises to sort things out with Social Services.

Bill phones Monty to tell him he is not going back to Spain. He goes to try one last attempt at reconciliation with Becky but finds her collapsed on the bed having an asthma attack. She hasn’t been able to get to her inhaler so Bill gets it for her. Angela thanks him for helping and agrees to let him stay for the wedding. Bill promises not to let Becky down this time.
