Later Daniel takes a moment to ring a lawyer to discuss access to Izzie. Lily hears but leaves to give him privacy. In the staff room afterwards Lily asks if Daniel if he is OK. He is still angry with Ruth for ruining things for him with Lisa and his daughter. Lily is surprised he isn’t more understanding regarding Ruth’s breakdown. She tells him he needs to be more responsible, as it is his own actions that have caused the situation, Ruth was just the messenger.
Later, Lily advises Daniel that he should stop sleeping with everyone he fancies and focus on long term meaningful relationships which might also be looked on more favourably in a custody battle.
Michelle and Adam are chatting over a cup of tea in the morning; it doesn’t sound very innocent though and the atmosphere feels charged as Adam looks intently at Michelle.
Later when they are dressed there is another awkward moment; Adam says he can’t help it so Michelle insists they get some fresh air. In the park Adam kisses Michelle passionately. However, seeing a young couple with their child gives Adam a jolt. He pulls away and is frozen when Michelle tries to kiss him again. He begins to walk away and runs when she calls after him.
Arriving back at her flat, Michelle hopes to find Adam, but there is only silence. When he finally returns he says she was right when she ended it before. Adam, convinced he is doing the right thing, leaves a gutted Michelle. How will Michelle cope with losing Adam for a second time?
Meanwhile, Outside his house Robert Pilmer (74) angrily talks to Shelia Tatler (45), his neighbour. He is generally disgusted by her, and blames her for the fact that he was woken up in the night by boys throwing eggs at her house. He calls to his daughter, Marion Pilmer (39), who rushes out of the house looking flustered. Robert mentions he has high blood pressure. Marion mouths sorry to Shelia as she gets into the car.
At the campus surgery Robert sees Jimmi, who knows Robert and how to handle him. His blood pressure is a bit high. Robert tells Jimmi he is irritated by his neighbour because Shelia is a transsexual. He thinks Shelia is a bad influence on Marion who he is still very protective of after her failed marriage. In reception Jimmi pretends to meet Marion for the first time; she does not want Robert to know she has the same doctor as him.
Arriving back at the house Robert rushes inside when he sees Shelia on her driveway. Shelia asks Marion if she would like to go for lunch later and encourages her to take control of her life. Taking the shopping inside Marion loses her temper with Robert’s derogatory remarks about Shelia and storms back out of the house. She takes Shelia up on her lunch invitation and Robert watches them leaving together in disbelief.
On the high street it is clear Marion is anxious about leaving her father. Shelia gives her a manicure appointment to try and cheer her up. Concerned and annoyed Robert rings Marion but gets her voicemail.
Later walking down the street and admiring her manicured nails Marion decides to take a short cut down an alley way. She leaves her bag open after taking her phone out of it. A man suddenly grabs at her bag and runs off with her mobile and some money. Standing in shock Marion realises blood is coming from a cut above her eye caused by the struggle.
Robert is still anxious about Marion, and seeing Sheila arrive home alone he goes round to talk to her. Seeing how worried Robert is, Sheila agrees to ring Marion but is cut off strangely. Together they go to look for Marion. They check the nail salon and then head for where the car was parked. They find her in the alley way and Sheila calmly handles the situation - like Robert, she used to be in the army.
At the campus surgery Jimmi tends to Marion’s cut. They discuss how Robert still treats her like a child, and Jimmi encourages her to stand up to Robert. Outside Robert and Sheila are waiting. Robert is uncomfortable at the thought of them having the same doctor. Sheila goes in to see Marion and Jimmi and Robert talk.
Jimmi suggests that Robert should let go of Marion. Marion then stands up to Robert and tells him she wants to move out. Even though they will never be best friends, Robert starts to respect Sheila.
