Later, Jimmi has to address the group and reveals aspects of his childhood. He finds it difficult but is encouraged by Sarah, while Karen has to hold back the tears. Sarah then asks her about her fear of spiders! Sarah shows the group some gruesome pictures to gauge their reactions, Jimmi manages to keep his cool but Karen’s foot starts to twitch especially when they see some pictures of spiders.
Jimmi has to sort through a pile of soiled clothes while Karen still takes the mick with the plastic spiders she has been given; Jimmi admits it is harder than he thought. Sarah comes to ask Jimmi how he is getting on, when he looks like he is going to the loo again she reminds him that he is not allowed to wash his hands. Karen manages to hold a teeny tiny spider and is rather too good at it.
At lunch Sarah tells Jimmi and Karen that they are going to up the ante this afternoon; Jimmi has to eat a sandwich off a toilet seat! As Jimmi has to sort through a dustbin he spots Karen playing with little spiders and guesses that she’s not frightened of spiders at all, it was a ruse! But when Karen’s big moment arrives she is faced with a real tarantula … and she bottles it big time!
Jimmi comforts her and they both resolve to do a runner but Sarah catches them and Jimmi realises he has to face his fears. With massive trepidation he manages to eat the sandwich (as Karen winces in the background); he is amazed. Jimmi leaves feeling as though the day was a success; he feels he has taken a massive step but still manages to get Karen back before they leave!
Meanwhile, At the crack of dawn Jill Maplethorpe (42) is cramming in some last minute coursework when she is disturbed by the sound of her father John Maplethorpe (75) mowing the lawn; exhausted she brings him in before he disturbs the neighbours. Later in the morning Lily arrives for a home visit but Jill hasn’t phoned her; it turns out John called the doctor. Despite Jill’s edginess Lily examines John and concludes he has a cold, meanwhile Jill tells Lily that she has been getting behind on her university work because of having to look after her father.
After Lily has left Jill struggles to get John dressed. She makes him a cup of tea, and when John insists on no ‘sweetener muck’ we see Jill pop one in anyway and John reluctantly drinks it. When a sleepy John goes for a nap Jill is relieved to be able to get on with some work.
Later she tries to find the phone and John is still asleep, Jill becomes slightly alarmed when John doesn’t wake up, but eventually he does. However Jill’s relief soon turns back to frustration when she later finds John peeling her favourite new wallpaper off the wall. John is clearly confused and Jill in despair. She phones The Campus and asks to see Heston. Jill needs to get to the doctors but John isn’t playing ball, she makes him another come of tea, and eventually she loses her temper with him and storms off.
With Jill gone John carries on stripping the wallpaper but starts to feel drowsy, meanwhile Jill finds Lily outside the Campus and tries to excuse herself. Lily is intrigued and inside Heston tells her that Jill wanted sleeping pills when she saw him last. Back at home John falls off the ladder.
Jill arrives finding him on the floor, and he wants Dr Lily. Lily arrives and treats John, and confronts Jill, asking her whether she has been giving her father sleeping pills? Jill admits she was desperate; Lily warns her of the consequences and reluctantly gives Jill a second chance as she promises not to do it again. After Lily has left Jill reaches for the pills…
