'No Rest For The Wicked'
Armed with the knowledge that Simon is gay, Cherry tries her best to act normally but can’t quite manage it, arousing Simon’s suspicions. Simon can’t see what the problem is until Karen points it out; Cherry thought that something might happen between them – he’s mortified. He invites Cherry to lunch and apologises for his ignorance; he had no idea she liked him.

After an awkward exchange they make amends and make a pact to resume their innocent friendship. Zara arrives for her first day at work confident and assertive and immediately clocks Daniel.

She’s slightly put out when Lily introduces herself as her mentor but manages to assert her authority when she kicks Simon out of his room. She enjoys a brief flirtation with Daniel but is knocked back when at the end of the day he declines her offer for a drink.

Daniel’s mood is dampened by the death of Cybil Lambert and the news that her funeral is taking place the next day. Zara is extremely unhappy that she’s been embarrassed in front of both Karen and Lily. Hook.

Meanwhile, the Moody family cause havoc when they arrive at The Mill. Sharon (28) and Bella (12) have an appointment with Zara, who attempts to reduce the size of the rabble ordering Sharon’s mother in law, Linda (48) to take children Davey (7) and Joe (3) back into reception.

She quickly diagnoses Bella’s eye allergy but Sharon’s complaint isn’t as easy to diagnose; she wants medication for tiredness but Zara won’t give it to her. Instead she gives Sharon a card and tells her to return in two weeks after keeping a sleep diary.

Later that day a stressed Sharon returns to find the children running riot, playing on various gadgets under Linda’s slack supervision. Bella notices that her mum is obviously on the verge of cracking under the strain so calls Zara, eventually pricking her conscience and getting her to come out to the house.

Sharon is defensive when Bella explains she called Zara because she was worried about her mum driving all night but Sharon interjects and angrily sends Bella out. Sharon explains that she works six days a week, both morning and evening shifts because she needs the money and has been doing so for two years.

Zara tells Sharon she needs to give up one job to look after her health and suggests they could cut down on their extravagances as they seem to have a lot of expensive gadgets lying around. This angers Sharon; her kids deserve the best, but she is surprised when Bella says she’d rather have her mother around than all of the gadgets. Zara also tells Linda that as a lodger she needs to be helping Sharon, and paying her own way.

Bella surprises them all when she announces they’ll sell their games to give their mum more money, but Linda lovingly tells her that she won’t need to now Nan’s getting a job!
