'Heartfelt Gestures'

When Duncan Oliver (19) answers the door to Jessica Morrisey (19) its clear he likes her but he acts like an idiot when she invites him out for her birthday that evening. She likes him back but he is trying too hard playing it cool to see it.

Duncan goes to a jewellery shop with a glass jar full of coins to buy Jessica a letter J broach for her birthday present, but Samuel Kendrick (32) owns the shop wont let Duncan have the broach as hasn’t got enough money. Duncan busks in the street to get the remaining money he needs for the broach but is horrified to find Sam has sold it.

Duncan finds out Julia bought the broach and when he offers her the money for it she refuses. She had a delivery of flat packed furniture though and so asks him to help her with that. Julia gives Duncan some advice about how to get the girl he fancies, and is about to give him the broach when she sees a sketch he has done of Jessica. She tells him it’s very good and will impress her more than the broach.

Julia gives Duncan some of Liam’s smart old clothes to wear to the party but he gets splashed by a car on his way and ends up pulling some hideous clothes out of a recycling bin. He then looses the sketch of Jessica and goes to the jewellers and offers to clean in exchange for a gift, but Sam won’t give him a chance. He phones Julia in despair and she tells him to just go to the party.

Everyone stops and looks at him as he enters the bar. He is about to leave when Jessica stops him and to his delight she leans in and kisses him. They go into the party hand in hand.

Michelle arrives at the Mill hung over and Karen is star struck to find out she was out last night with the weather girl Fallon McGee (28). Fallon was Michelle’s best mate at school but she hadn’t seen her for years. Michelle tells Karen she used to be nice but has turned into a total cow. Fallon turns up with Michelle’s lost jacket, and Karen puts them both on the spot suggesting they meet for lunch.

Fallon is drinking at lunch and spends the time talking about how fantastic her job is. Michelle wants to find out why Fallon treated her like she had leprosy last night, but Fallon gets defensive and leaves.

Back at the Mill Michelle is looking at photos from the evening before on a social networking site and confides in Karen she thinks something is wrong with Fallon. When Michelle spots something in the photos that alarms her she goes to where Fallon works.

Michelle tells Fallon she knows she’s self harming, and Fallon reveals her depression but doesn’t want to discuss it with Michelle. When Fallon crumbles during her weather forecast, Michelle is there to reassure her and she regains control. Michelle then tells Fallon she’ll help her deal with her problems.
