Heston thinks Daniel has been punished for his past mistakes and isn’t guilty of any wrong doing this time. Daniel can’t see what he has done wrong, claiming he needs the money for Izzie, but Lily argues dragging the surgery into another scandal won’t help Izzie if he looses his job.
Daniel goes to see Julia and she warns him it’s likely that Lisa will have seen the newspaper too and he’ll be lucky if she ever lets him see Izzie again. Daniel is stunned.
Heston tries to move his stuff into Lily’s house but she is determined thwart his attempts. However, when he buys an exquisite antique chest of drawers for the bedroom, Lily can’t deny how beautiful it is. She’s defeated, and Heston moves his stuff in.
Meanwhile, Emily Bathurst (50s) has been living in her car for some time. It’s been parked outside Tony Needham’s prestigious house and he comes out shouting at her to leave. Emily goes to the park and bumps into Tony walking his dog. As he furiously accuses her of stalking him, Karen spots the commotion and recognises Emily but Emily denies knowing Karen.
Later, Emily parks up outside the Campus Surgery, attempting to write a suicide note to her children. Karen again spots Emily and this time she admits she does know Karen. She was a nurse in a dental surgery Karen temped at.
Emily tells Karen her marriage to an American man ended in divorce and her two kids live with him in America. Karen spots blood coming from Emily’s wrists and takes her into the Campus where Daniel tends to the superficial cuts.
Emily finds Karen searching her car for drugs, as she needs to know she’s not an addict as she has found Emily a place in a shelter. Emily says her husband won custody of the children after she was badly injured in a car accident. The custody battle left her bankrupt which is why she is living in her car. Karen takes Emily to the shelter which is run by her friend Tina Edgar. Emily is horrified at the thought of living in a hostel; she thinks it’s beneath her.
Karen helps her realise her pride is standing in the way of her getting the help she needs. Emily returns to Tony’s house and surprises him by asking him to forward any mail for her to the shelter’s address. It turns out she used to live there.
