'Bad Hair Day'
After the shooting of David at the police station yesterday Lily, Rob and Luke are reeling. Heston holds Lily together throughout the day and Karen is furious Rob didn't tell her about the shooting; she found out from Heston!

After a rant form Karen Rob loses it; he had other things on his mind than calling Karen! Rob reveals his guilt that Luke was so trigger happy, if he hadn't let Luke win the ARU trial then Rob would have been in his place. If Rob were the one holding the gun, none of his would have happened.

Karen is shocked Rob deliberately failed the trial because she didn't want him to have the job and apologises. She will take Jack to his new digs and will be waiting at home for him when he's finished. Lily is suffering with her own guilt; she could have made it clearer to Luke she thought she had matters under control.

Lily tells this to Luke attempting to reassure him yet ease her own suffering. Luke is steadfast; he saved Lily's life, but he didn't mean to kill the boy. Luke is obviously being eaten up by his own demons and has been suspended pending a full enquiry.

Rob arrives home and we see him and Karen laughing, back to normal. This contrasts strongly with the sight of Luke, alone in his flat.

Meanwhile, Eight year-old Orla is of mixed race and as she tries to tame her huge afro in the mirror Maria (40s, white) hurries her up.

At the Mill, Marie explains to Zara that Orla's schoolteacher thinks she needs medication to temper her unruliness. Zara is horrified, as Orla is an intelligent young girl and suggests Marie talks to the school. Marie sends Orla into reception so she can talk to Zara alone.

Ruth looks after Orla and after seeing how frustrated Orla is with her hair, offers to put it back for her. Orla is thrilled and later Ruth recommends a local hairdresser specialising in Afro-Caribbean hair to Marie. She is not impressed; she can look after her granddaughter herself thank you! Back at home Marie walks in on Orla chopping at her hair with the scissors.

Marie is furious but Orla reveals her hair gets in the way at school; she just wants pretty hair. Marie storms into the Mill with Orla in tow. She demands Ruth take them to the hairdresser she mentioned; this is her fault! Ruth sympathises and takes them to hairdresser Gloria (40s, black).

Gloria recognises Marie from school and admonishes her for failing to acknowledge Orla is of mixed race and needs to know about her roots. Marie grumbles; her daughter's taste in men was awful and since neither of them are around she's in charge and she's enough isn't she?!

No one denies this but as Orla gets her hair done we see Marie bond with Gloria and they agree to stay for dinner and try some traditional Caribbean food.
