Heston is horrified when he returns home to find Lily making awkward small talk with Christine. Worse, Christine has introduced herself as Heston’s ex-wife and Lily didn’t even know that Heston had been married. Lily is clearly hurt and leaves with a barbed comment for Heston. Heston is uncharacteristically short with her, its not as if she doesn’t have her secrets! Lily is astonished and retreats home.
Heston turns to Christine and asks her to leave. She tries to talk to him about the reason she’s here, but he reminds her that everything she says he’ll consider a lie. Christine turns to go, but Heston can’t resist asking her about ‘the boy’. Christine tells him that Steven is outside waiting in the car.
Heston watches as she walks to the car and sees a teenage boy sitting in the passenger seat, listening to his iPod. Heston looks as though his heart might break.
Daniel’s new car arrives so he hands over Rosie’s keys to an ecstatic Simon. However, after an unintentionally barbed age comment from Julia, Daniel is less pleased with his new car. Cherry can’t stop talking about Scott all day, even Simon gets a little tired of this.
Meanwhile, Whiskers (50) is homeless, but trying to spruce himself up for the funeral of Anthony Dawes. He toys with a small phial of coloured glass as he does so.
Arriving at Anthony’s wake, Jimmi greets his widow Lucy (40) and recognises Whiskers as he fills his pockets with food in the background. Jimmi tells Whiskers it’s no place for a free feed and to show some respect, but Whiskers just sidles off.
There’s a flicker of recognition from Lucy when Whiskers pays her his respects, but she claims not to know him, and he skulks away. But when Tim (48) gives a speech about what a good man Anthony was, Whiskers can’t contain himself, and lunges at him.
Jimmi breaks the pair up, dragging Tim away, while Lucy and Whiskers go outside. Tim admits to a disgusted Jimmi that Whiskers was a colleague in the old days, but they set him up.
In the garden, Whiskers explains how when he lost her and his job he slipped into alcoholism, and onto the streets. But he still loves her, and now that cheat Anthony is out the way…but Lucy cuts him off. She was seeing Anthony while still with Whiskers, and asked to get him set up to get him out the way.
Whiskers is heart broken - what about their time together, he asks, holding out the phial. Lucy doesn’t remember it, and leaves a crushed Whiskers to go back inside. Jimmi speaks to Whiskers, at least now he knows, isn’t it time he tried to do something with himself?
Whiskers walks away, the sand from the phial trailing in the wind behind him.
