Barry is reluctant to open up to Rob, but just as Rob thinks he's getting somewhere DS Sean Richmond appears and Barry runs off. DS Richmond tells Rob he's on dangerous ground given that he's already been told to keep his nose out.
Finally DS Richmond realises Rob wont let it go, so shows Rob a file of confidential information which shocks him.
When he gets home he's amused to find Imogen has made a huge effort all day baking and getting ready for a surprise for Rob. She's the perfect 1950s child in dress and manner. The only trouble is, this stops him opening up to Karen about what he found out from DS Richmond.
Jimmi gets a tie in the mail from a fan of his radio show but he's troubled to know how they know he worked at the police station.
Meanwhile, Zoe Magee (14) asks her aunt Lisa Knowles (45) for some money for phone credit. They're waiting for her brother Ewan Magee (21) to get back from his part time job in a supermarket. Zoe isn't happy with him as he won't get her the new laptop she wants. Ewan has been looking after Zoe since their parents were killed in a car crash the year before.
Money is tight and Ewan is struggling to look after Zoe, hold down a job and go to university, yet Lisa has a go at him for the house being untidy. All three go to see Michelle as Zoe has recently been diagnosed with asthma.
Back at home Zoe pretends to be ill and Ewan tells her she can take the rest of the day off school. He then receives a letter from Social Services over concerns about how he's looking after Zoe. Ewan blames Lisa for contacting them. Ewan decides to take Zoe back to see Michelle, but when he takes the letter out to talk to Michelle about it Zoe panics and has an asthma attack.
When they've gone Michelle finds the letter and reads it. Lisa comes back to the house and another row breaks out between her and Ewan. Michelle arrives holding the letter; and Zoe drops herself in it revealing she wrote it. Ewan's devastated and Zoe says she did it because he wouldn't get her the laptop.
Michelle helps Zoe realise how cruel and selfish her behaviour has been, and Ewan shocks them by saying he can't look after Zoe any more.
Michelle helps them realise that all families have problems but its how they tackle them that makes a difference. Zoe realises she has a lot of growing up to do.
