Meanwhile, even though Danny Rickett (30's) is desperate to find a babysitter for his niece Poppy Cooper (1) he instantly rejects partner Sean Whiteley's (30's) suggestion of his sister in law Mandy. Danny is furious at Mandy for contesting the will that he should have custody of Poppy. Desperate Danny shows up at Julia's who volunteers reluctant Ruth to babysit.

Later, as Ruth struggles, Mandy arrives. She reveals she can never have children and that's why she's so fond of Poppy. Mandy berates Danny when they discover Poppy is ill and they go to The Mill. Mandy questions his parenting skills and Ruth is suspicious. Jimmi diagnoses an ear infection and gently advises Danny to get some help.

Later, Ruth wonders to Jimmi whether Poppy would be better off with Mandy, and when Jimmi questions whether that's Ruth's prejudices talking, she feels terrible. She returns to see Danny who has decided to give up Poppy, but Ruth reassures him that his sister chose him for a reason.

Mandy arrives and it soon transpires that she lied about her fertility, but that Sean has been encouraging Mandy in order to lay a guilt trip on Danny because Sean didn't want Poppy. Danny is appalled; he's going to keep Poppy and asks Mandy and Sean to leave. Ruth reassures him he'll be a great parent.
