'Rebecca's Dream'

Daniel arrives at work and gives Julia a warm greeting. When Judith calls him to see whether he would recommend any other procedures, Daniel says she really doesn't need any help but suggests they meet for coffee anyway. Daniel is getting into his stride and taking almost professional pleasure in charming Judith - a thing he's very good at.

Later, Daniel and Judith go for a walk in the park. Their hands brush when Daniel gives her his scarf, and then he kisses her hand. Just then he looks up to see Julia giving them a very disapproving look. Daniel makes an excuse and follows Julia, suggesting it's not what it looks like. Julia says she's disappointed in him. All his talk about turning over a new leaf, being a good father, it was all nonsense. Daniel tries to defend himself, but of course, can't tell her the absolute truth and is left full of self-loathing.

Karen excitedly tells Jimmi that Rob is coming back from his course, and leaves work at lunchtime and sets the scene for seduction. But when Rob comes home, he's in no mood. The course was a patronising punishment and the bank has called, they've reached their overdraft limit and there's no money until payday. He wants them to spend the afternoon going through their family expenditure, but Karen orders him into the bath.

Any romance dies when she accidentally squirts him in the eye with massage oil. Rob moans about her very few extravagances and says having Jack still there, eating them out of house and home, without making a contribution has tipped the balance. Rob says they could loose the house, which gets Karen's attention. She promises to cut down at the supermarket and takes it on herself to persuade Jack to get a job.

Seeing her make such an effort, Rob starts to feel romantic again, and whisks Karen off to bed.

Meanwhile, Rebecca (33) is picnicking with stepchildren Dawn (14) and Matty (5) when an unknown boy appears but then runs away. Rebecca is torn whether to stay with her stepchildren, or follow the boy. She suddenly wakes from her dream to the sound of Dawn and Matty arguing.

Rebecca's husband Michael avoids any confrontation with the kids, and escapes off to work. Rebecca takes the children to the Mill for Matty's diabetes check up.

While Dawn waits in reception, Lily sees Matty. There's then a crash from reception as Dawn upends a table. Furious, Rebecca hauls the kids out of Mill, and takes them to the park to try to talk some sense into Dawn. Before she's able to, she collapses in agony. Scared, Dawn and Matty run back to the Mill to fetch Lily.

Lily calls an ambulance and at the hospital, helps Dawn realise how hard Rebecca is trying to be there for her and Matty.

Michael arrives, and Lily tells him Rebecca was pregnant, but it was ectopic and she's lost the baby. Michael reveals to Lily how he's always at work and avoids being a father, because he's frightened of getting it wrong.

Lily talks to an unconscious Rebecca - but for Michael's benefit, as she knows he's listening - sympathizing with her for having to become an instant mum. Rebecca regains consciousness, and tells Lily her worries about being a poor step mum.

Lily shows her the card the children have made her, and Rebecca is touched, particularly when Dawn apologises for everything. Michael enters, and reveals he's going to be around more at home, and make a real effort.
