'A Child Called Moon'

Zara tries hard to keep her emotions in check after her break up with Matthew and Ruth offers a listening ear. Simon tells Cherry about Will and asks her to make herself scarce that night so they can have the house to themselves. She says its no problem as she struggles to hide her upset that he has forgotten that today is her birthday.

Michelle surprises Cherry with some flowers and a birthday card but disappoints her when she tells Cherry she already has plans for that night. Everyone assumed she would be doing something with Simon. Simon is mortified when Karen comes into the staffroom holding a birthday cake and presents for Cherry.

Jimmi rescues Cherry's birthday from being a disaster by taking her home to his for race night with him and Daniel.

As the boys frantically race their cars, Cherry calmly beats them both! Sapphire has been spending ages in the bathroom but won't tell Lily what's wrong, so she makes an appointment for her to see Simon. Lily and Sapphire bond over lily's fossil collection.

Meanwhile, John Fairley (50s) is spying on Moon Bridges (2) through the window when his daughter Sam Bridges (30s) catches him and yells at him to stay away. Later, Sam takes Moon to the Campus to register and to get the wound on his arm checked. Moon is wearing a dress so Michelle is taken aback to discover Moon is actually a boy.

Sam doesn't want Moon to grow up within societies enforced gender stereotypes. Michelle has concerns about what effect it will have on Moon in the future.

John has followed Sam and Moon to the Campus but she refuses to talk to him and leaves. John tries to get Michelle to tell him what is wrong with Moon, and she is shocked when John reveals he doesn't know if Moon is a boy or a girl. He fell out with Sam when he told her he didn't like the name Moon.

Michelle goes to see Sam who reveals she always felt she could never live up to her dead brother and her dad treated her like a boy almost trying to replace him.

Michelle thinks Sam is now trying to punish her dad and using Moon as a weapon. John arrives with presents for Moon's birthday.

Michelle makes them see they are more alike than they think and urges them to find some middle ground for Moon's sake. Sam brings Moon in for John to play with his grandson.
