Meanwhile, it's night time and fisherman Arthur Bruin (60) bids farewell to agoraphobic wife Janey Bruin (61) and brother Fred Bruin (62).
Next morning, Karen tells Simon that Arthur hasn't filed a repeat prescription. Simon is writing a medical paper on Arthur's condition so goes to check on him. Janey reluctantly lets Simon in, concerned that Arthur's not taking his pills, she sends Simon to the reservoir.
Simon finds Arthur and tells him the risks of not taking his medication; Arthur doesn't see the point if his wife doesn't love him anymore. Concerned Simon offers to help him talk to his wife but Arthur wants to just sit and fish. Simon goes back to the house where he finds Fred and Janey. Fred is a haemophiliac too, and he drags a reluctant Simon back to see Arthur.
On the way, Fred tells Simon that Arthur asked him to move in with Janey. When they find Arthur is missing, they call the police. But Arthur has returned home and Janey asks him why he is punishing her, it wasn't her idea and she couldn't help falling in love with Fred. Arthur doesn't want her to have to look after him. He knows she always loved Fred, it's for the best. Fred arrives home and says he should never have let Arthur talk him into moving in.
Back at the reservoir Smithy tells Rob and Simon that Arthur went home. Simon dashes there and Arthur tells him that Fred always wins; it was him that got the bad blood in the transfusion not Fred. Arthur would rather sit and fish and fade away let Janey and Fred be happy - he's made his decision.
Arthur returns to his fishing and after a conversation with Smithy, Simon arrives to see him. Arthur tells him he's decided to start taking the pills again so Simon can carry on with his research after all….
