Julia is reluctant to lend the money so Sam calls Mac and he agrees to come round. Mac can’t make it because he’s dealing with Anna’s collapse, so Sam storms off. Julia goes after her. Julia talks to Sam and realises the money isn’t for a flat after all; she wants it to pay off her new boyfriend’s debt. Sam storms off again because she and her mother are incapable of getting on. Julia decides to follow Sam to London.
Meanwhile, Tricia [53] and Penny [53] are best friends. They are about to go on holiday together to relive a holiday they had together 30 years before. Tricia’s daughter Anna arrives; she’s 30 weeks pregnant. Anna obviously resents Penny and resents her mum’s planned holiday. Tricia spoils Anna because Anna is going to be a single mum. Anna is throwing up so Tricia takes her to see Mac. Mac gives her the all clear. Tricia is going to give Anna a lift but while they are driving Penny rings and speaks to Anna. Penny has a go at Anna so Anna backs down and tells Tricia to drop her where they are and go on holiday.
Tricia drives off but Anna collapses at the bus stop only to be found by Mac who is on his way to see Sam. Mac calls Tricia just as she and Penny are about to get in the cab to the airport. Tricia decides she needs to go and be with Anna so Penny storms off in the cab. Mac and Tricia go to hospital with Anna. Anna has a brain tumour; they need to deliver the baby prematurely before they can operate on her and after they do operate it will be a long haul for Anna’s recovery. Penny, at the airport, decides not go to Crete and goes to the hospital instead. Mac explains Anna’s diagnosis to Penny. Penny and Tricia are reunited and reconciled at Anna’s beside.
