Heston later talks to Howard about Elaine's situation and mentions that she might be off work for some time. He determines to sort it out and goes round to visit her himself - giving her a pep talk, fixing her vacuum and coming away with an agreement that she'll return tomorrow. At the end of the day, Mrs Tembe returns to Elaine's house with a casserole dish to apologise for her earlier rudeness, and Elaine invites her to join her for dinner.
Meanwhile, Karen is missing Jack and Immie. She wanders round the house trying to keep busy, but when she finds herself on her hands and knees scrubbing the bathroom floor, she can't believe what she's doing. When Rob comes home for lunch, he finds her wrapped in a towel singing to Blondie and decides to make the most of having the house to themselves.
Elsewhere, Kevin helps a woman struggling to cope with all of her responsibilities when the family reach breaking point.
