'Stealing Grief'
Jimmi arranges another poker game but the girls want to join in this time. Jimmi is out to beat Nick and doesn’t want any female distraction. Joe lets them come much to Jimmi’s irritation and he says they can only watch and bring food. Michelle is having none of that and she school’s Donna in the rules of poker. Greg opts out of this game. Michelle suggests that everyone dresses up, something that Jimmi buys into. The boys are suspicious of the girls and wonder what they are up to.

Ronnie and Paula meet up, she is frustrated she feels her hands are tied and that her position at the nick is untenable and so she is going to put in for a transfer. Ronnie wants her to change her mind, but she is concerned about what could happen to her if she meddled anymore.

Meanwhile, Catherine and Elsie Jones are waiting for the hearse bearing their son/grandson to arrive and are looking outside at the people bring flowers, the journalist when Elsie spots Sadie a local bad girl putting down flowers and she is furious. Catherine tries to calm her. George, who was Daniel, the dead boy’s doctor, goes to the funeral and then goes back to the house afterwards. Elsie is still going on about Sadie who was at the funeral and has turned up at the house afterwards.

George tries to calm the situation down and suggests that Sadie leaves. Before she leaves she wants to talk to Catherine and she suddenly says she knows that Daniel was adopted. Catherine refuses to be fazed by her as following Daniel’s death, he was run down by a joyrider the newspaper article mentioned he was adopted. Sadie won’t let it go and says wasn’t he abandoned less that a day old. This surprises Catherine, she says know one knew that. Sadie says she knows because she was the person who left him. George wants to know what made Sadie think that the baby she left and Daniel were one in the same. She says that she heard Elsie gossiping in the laundrette when he was about one and that was when she started walking past the house, she never spoke to him she just wanted to watch him grow. Elsie doesn’t believe any of it. Sadie then mentions that Daniel was a haemophiliac, Catherine says this was in the papers too. Sadie asks George if it runs in families. She says that it can. Sadie says her little brother died when he was four. It becomes too much for Catherine and she leaves. George asks if she can help her but she decides she must know if what Sadie says was true. She goes back and asks her what she wrapped the baby in and Sadie tells them it was a pink cardigan with little flowers embroidered on with a tear in the sleeve.

Sadie’s mother died when Sadie was ten. Catherine takes the cardigan out of a drawer. George asks Sadie who the father was and she explains that her father was a violent man, her mother died from beatings he gave her and he threatened to kill her if she told of the abuse. She didn’t realise she was pregnant and then one day she had pains and ended up having it in the bathroom. She then took the baby to the hospital and waited until he was found so she knew he was safe.

Catherine tells George later that she feels bad that she never helped her out when she saw her in the street as everyone knew about her drunken father. She tells George that she is going to help her out even though she knows it will be a challenge, but it is the sort of thing that Daniel would have done.
