'Without You'

Jimmi feels increasingly isolated but George takes pity on him and lets him come to lunch with her and Ronnie. Ronnie and Jimmi bore George with talk of the bike. Jimmi asks if he can have a go on it this weekend but Ronnie reveals he is going to visit a friend this weekend on his bike. George is fuming that he hadn’t mentioned his plans earlier and Jimmi slips away.

Jimmi returns to the Mill and hears the others laughing; he feels more isolated than ever. Joe is late taking a call from Emily. As he leaves he sees Jimmi in his office manically washing his hands. Michelle goes salsa dancing with Adam and takes him home. Michelle pulls away though, it’s too soon. Adam tells her she is worth waiting for.

Meanwhile, Jake (55), a well known hypochondriac, is sat on the Mill’s doorstep in pyjamas when Julia arrives in the morning. He is convinced that today is the day he’s going to die and needs to see Joe. Meanwhile his wife Mags (52) is sleeping with the 19 year-old gardener, David. Joe looks David over and assures him he is fine. Despite this David decides to stay at the Mill to await his blood test results.

Meanwhile, Mags tries to convince David that he is not in love with her. Julia phones Mags and asks to come and bring a change of clothes for Jake. Jake tells Julia that he had a nightmare in which Mags told him he was going to die and stabbed him. Mags arrives and throws some clothes at Jake. She tells Julia she has had enough of him being ill – she used to believe him but not anymore. Julia tries to convince her he is on the edge of a break through and Mags asks Jake to come home with her. He won’t though; he’s determined she wants him dead. Mags returns home alone and David is still there.

David wants Mags to leave Jake. He offers to kill Jake and make it look like an accident. Mags is unsure if he is serious but tells him he is making her uncomfortable and he is not going to kill him. At the Mill Jake gets the all clear. Joe suggests he see a psychologist and Jake agrees to try it. They ask if he knew what bought his hypochondria on just as Vivien offers him a bourbon biscuit. This triggers the memory of him eating a bourbon biscuit when he was told his brother died in a car accident. The shock of his brother’s death caused him to be scared to live. His audience are sceptical but Jake is convinced it’s a breakthrough.

Julia walks Jake home for reassurance. Jake tells Mags he is getting help just as David enters the room with his hand behind his back claiming Mags want to be with him. Julia reveals that David had a crush on her too. David claims this is different and tells Jake if he doesn’t leave he’ll kill him. He produces his weapon; a potato peeler. Jake collapses; he’s had a heart attack. In hospital Mags asks Jake for forgiveness but he doesn’t want to hear it. He wants to start again with a clean slate. Jake asks if he gets any credit for being right. Julia tells him no; he’s not dead.
