The actor landed the role of Nick last October, ten months after being axed from Taggart following a 15-year stint with the programme.
Nick - a politician and friend of the Brodie family - will make his River City debut in tomorrow's episode of the Scottish soap and waste little time before causing waves among the residents of Shieldinch.
Speaking to the Daily Record about what is in store, McCredie commented: "The character isn't as clean-cut as he makes out and skeletons start coming out of his closet. It really was 'in at the deep end' stuff - the speed of filming in River City is much faster than Taggart, but that's been great.
"Graham Gordon's the new producer at River City and he was the producer at Taggart too, so it meant I knew him and a lot of other people who'd either been in Taggart over the years or had also lost their jobs at the same time as me.
"Taggart's loss has been River City's gain. It is just nice to feel wanted again."
Reports suggest that McCredie will remain with River City for at least another month when filming on the show resumes in February.
