'River City' return for Lenny Murdoch

River City bosses have announced that bad boy Lenny Murdoch will be returning to the soap later this year.

The villain, played by actor Frank Gallagher, heads back to Shieldinch in a bid to make amends with his daughter Amber and leave his crooked past behind him once and for all.

Show producers have confirmed that Lenny's return will not go down well with the local residents, who were glad to see him make his departure last year.

Getting back on good terms with Amber will also prove to be an uphill struggle for Lenny as he tries to secure her forgiveness and adjust to her new relationship with boyfriend Fraser.

Speaking of his return, Gallagher commented: "It'll be interesting to go back and see how much Lenny has changed and also to develop the character further. It'll be nice to catch up with the cast and in particular Lorna Anderson who plays Amber."

River City's executive producer Gaynor Holmes added: "Lenny Murdoch is the River City character whom everybody loves to hate and we're absolutely thrilled to have him back. We've got loads of exciting storylines coming up in which we'll see Lenny wreaking his own very special brand of havoc around Shieldinch."

Lenny makes his return to screens in June.
