The actress, who plays gangster Lenny's daughter Amber Murdoch in the soap, told the News of the World that she has already filmed her final scenes, to be aired on BBC Scotland in September.
She said: "I've been in River City for four years and loved every second of it. But I think it's just time to move on and try something new.
"I'm so excited about taking on new projects, although I'm nervous too."
The actress has landed a role in the film Seven Songs for Amy alongside Ford Kiernan, a film about a Galway musician and his misfit bandmates.
"The script is fantastic," Anderson added. "We're filming in Ireland and New York and I can't wait."
Frank Gallagher will return as Amber's father Lenny next week, and Anderson revealed that her on-screen mother (Jacqueline Leonard) will also return for her exit.
On her character's exit, she said: "There are some real shocks."
