Dan is off to work on a Saturday, but it's not the goodwill of his patients he has on his mind. He soon goes online to gamble but his card is rejected, and he has already used the surgery credit card to the limit. Dan heads off to get scratch cards from the deli and wins £100 in front of Gabriel.

Deciding Gabriel must be his lucky charm, he asks for more betting tips but Gabriel has seen the red letters Dan has been receiving and questions whether he should be spending his wife's maintenance at the bookies. Dan knows he is struggling financially and when Malcolm trusts him with taking the Christmas club money to the bank, the temptation proves too much.

Meanwhile, Lenny is finally getting to spend a day with Cal and is taking him to the zoo. However a dizzy turn, witnessed by Frances, sets him on edge and he knows he needs an injection from Michael or he won't get through the day.

Michael agrees, but makes Lenny promise that he will learn how to self-administer drugs and take better care of himself. However, when Frances sees him have another dizzy turn while in charge of Cal, she demands to find out just what is wrong with him.

Elsewhere, Leyla is keen to get the children's Christmas presents organised but Michael is just too busy to spare any time, and to top it off he is off to work even though it's Saturday. Leyla is left holding the fort but Gabriel steps in to take the boys to football and offers up some ideas for what everyone might like for Christmas. Leyla is grateful but is not pleased when Michael says he might have to work on Christmas Day.
