Strictly Come Dancing star John Sergeant is to make a cameo appearance in an episode of Casualty.

The 65-year-old former political correspondent returns to his roots in his episode of the BBC medical drama, playing himself - a political reporter.

The episode, entitled 'The Price We Pay', sees a horde of journalists and reporters gather outside Holby City Hospital when they discover that an MP is being treated there. However, as Sergeant attempts to deliver his report, ambulance sirens continue to interrupt him.

The episode is due to air on May 2.

In November, Sergeant made the controversial decision to pull out of BBC reality series Strictly Come Dancing over fears that he might have won the series.
