New consultant for 'Casualty'

Peter O'Brien is to join the cast of Casualty later this year as a new consultant.

The 47-year-old actor will play Stitch, a sexy maverick bad boy who is the antithesis of Harry Harper (Simon MacCorkindale). He'll make huge waves in the department, breaking hearts and rules alike and is set to lead Guppy down a dark and dangerous path.

Stitch first appears in an episode set in a casino and, when an accident occurs, he impresses Nathan Spencer (Ben Price) with his medical skills. Nathan takes Stitch on as his new consultant, but it isn't long before he starts to regret his decision.

Of his new role, O'Brien told holby.tv: "I have heard nothing but good things about Casualty and it having such a loyal following. The quality and challenging aspects of the part made it very appealing for me.

"You don't often get the opportunity to play a character who is so unrestrained. I'm really looking forward to my time on the show and seeing how my character ruffles a few duvets on the wards!"

Stitch will first appear on screen in an episode of the same name, scheduled to air on Saturday, March 24.
