Tony McHale/Diana Kyle ('Holby City')
As part of Digital Spy's Producer Season 2009, we recently caught up with Holby City's leading duo Tony McHale and Dina Kyle - the programme's executive and series producers respectively - to find out what's on the horizon for the wards' medical staff, including Faye, Chrissie and the new brother and sister trainees, Oliver and Penny Valentine.

We've seen Rachel involved in Daisha's storyline, but will we learn more about her soon?
DK "Sadly, the lovely Rachel was transferred up to Geriatrics a short while ago. Although she is still working in the hospital, we are not likely to see her on our regular wards for some time."

Are we going to see Rachel's boyfriend or is it just a myth?
TM "In Holby, I would never say ‘never’... There may be a time in the future when we see both Rachel and her boyfriend."

When Faye was under suspicion for killing her husband (who was later found to have died under suspicious circumstances) it seemed like this would be revealed as her secret. It wasn't, but do you plan on tying up these loose ends?
DK "Faye's story in ongoing so one day, all her secrets are bound to be revealed. We have been focusing on the Joseph/Faye relationship recently - will they/won't they finally tie the knot? But Faye's past will never be forgotten - there are plenty of surprises in store for our audience yet."
TM "With Faye, we have a character that has always been struggling to keep her life together. She has always believed her one major responsibility in her life is her son Archie and she would do anything to protect him, while endeavouring to give him the best life she can. This has meant that at times she’s had to distort the truth, which is a polite way of saying ‘lie'. But ultimately, she is a person who is simply looking for security and happiness in a relationship. Will Joseph be the end of that quest? I can’t really say, but Faye will quite soon unwittingly create another problem between them."

What's to come for...
Maria
DK "Maria has a big story coming up at the end of May involving a tragedy at the hospital. It will affect everyone on the wards but will make Maria question whether or not she should actually be a nurse at all."
TM "Maria obviously went through a rough patch when Sam left for America. She believed she’d fallen in love for the first time and first loves are always difficult to move on from. She seems to be doing well... but that doesn’t mean to say it’s totally gone away."

Archie
DK "Once Faye and Joseph are married, Joseph will want to confirm that he's now Archie's father. Adoption is the obvious solution but nothing is easy whenever these two lovebirds are involved."
TM "Archie’s health is an ongoing worry for Faye, a worry that will never go away. With Joseph, has Faye found the man that will enable her to take Archie out of full-time care and allow him to live at home with her? That’s certainly her dream. At one stage, she wanted to have her own care home so Archie would be with her full time. This will certainly be a thought for Faye to pursue again, but will it come to fruition? Who knows..."

Faye / Joseph
DK "Do Faye and Joseph tie the knot? I think we all know the answer already. And Jac will eventually have to come to terms with it and get on with her life - for a while. But then what? Faye will try to keep another secret concerning an incident at the wedding, creating more questions for Joseph. Can he really trust the woman he loves?"
TM "After the lock down episode... cards were well and truly placed on the table by Jac. Joseph can’t totally forget what was said in those tense moments. But it seems he’s managed to push them aside - for the time being at least. I can’t believe they’ll lay dormant forever... Joseph is a Byrne... and Jac is a woman with a mission."

Chrissie
DK "Chrissie is well established back on the wards of Holby. But she will find it difficult to cope with her father's suspicions about her personal life - especially after his previous behaviour with Daisha. When Chrissie begins working with the new trainee doctors - Penny and Oliver - we suspect a bumpy ride is in store for Chrissie again. But will she find the man of her dreams?"
TM "Chrissie is now the nurse that has been dealing with patients at Holby the longest. Yet she's still struggling to find love in her life. There is someone in Holby, though, that could be a perfect match for her... I can’t say who that is at this stage, but whoever it turns out to be, we all know the path of Chrissie’s love life never runs smooth..."

Donna
DK "We see a new side to Donna when she meets up with her dad who comes in as a surprise patient. Everyone at Holby will be on tenterhooks over this story. How will she cope? Even Donna will find it hard to joke about this one - will we ever get back the smiling party girl we all know and love?"
TM "Donna will hopefully always be Donna. But the story with her dad is both touching and revealing. We see a side to Donna that we very rarely see. It’s a story I advise everyone to become involved with as the ride is well worth it."

Brother Doctor and Sister Doctor
[DK] "Brother and sister trainee doctors Oliver and Penny Valentine arrive on the screen in June. They're both full of energy and enthusiasm and are both absolutely gorgeous. They will have instant impact on the wards at every level."
TM "They're a great addition to the gang. They both want to achieve and although one is more naturally gifted than the other, they're both very talented doctors. Work and private lives are bound to collide in their quests to climb their respective career ladders."

And also on the cards...
DK

TM
